Innogenetics verkrijgt belangrijk octrooi voor hepatitis B resistentietest

Gent (België), 6 februari 2008 – 18u00 (CET) – Innogenetics kondigde vandaag aan dat het Amerikaanse octrooibureau een belangrijk octrooi heeft toegekend voor het testen op hepatitis B geneesmiddelenresistentie. Dit is het eerste toegekende Amerikaans octrooi dat bescherming biedt voor de belangrijkste mutatie die aanleiding geeft tot hepatitis B virusresistentie. Het octrooi US 7,313,357 beschermt een HBV mutant met de YMDD mutatie en tevens voor elke methode die deze mutatie gebruikt voor de bepaling van geneesmiddelenresistentie. Resistentiebepalingen voor geneesmiddelen worden tegenwoordig sterk aangeraden voor alle bestaande hepatitis B antivirale behandelingen zoals lamivudine, adefovir en entecavir. Dit octrooi versterkt de positie van Innogenetics in het veld voor tenminste 10 jaar.

Vandaag zijn er 2 miljard mensen geïnfecteerd met het hepatitis B virus (HBV), en 350 miljoen personen zijn chronische dragers. Deze chronische dragers van het virus lopen het risico op leverfalen en in de praktijk wordt een behandeling met interferonen of antivirale middelen voorgeschreven. Antivirale middelen tegen hepatitis B die vandaag beschikbaar zijn omvatten lamivudine, adefovir, entecavir en telbivudine. De bepaling van geneesmiddelenresistentie wordt steeds meer een onderdeel van de opvolging bij de therapie van hepatitis B patiënten.

Innogenetics heeft een sterke positie opgebouwd in HBV diagnostiek. Het bedrijf verkoopt vandaag 3 verschillende producten, een test voor de precore promotor, een genotyperingstest en een test voor de bepaling van geneesmiddelenresistentie. Innogenetics secures key patent for hepatitis B drug resistance testing

Gent (Belgium), February 6, 2008 – 18h00 (CET) – Innogenetics today announced that the United States Patent Office has granted a key patent for hepatitis B drug resistance testing. This is the first granted US patent covering a critical mutation leading to hepatitis B viral drug resistance. US patent 7,313,357 covers an HBV virus with the YMDD mutation and, therefore, any method using this mutation for drug resistance testing. Drug resistance testing is now highly recommended for all currently available hepatitis B antivirals such as lamivudine, adefovir, and entecavir. The patent broadens Innogenetics patent position in the field for at least 10 years.

Currently some 2 billion persons are infected by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), leading to 350 million chronic carriers. People who become chronic carriers of the virus are at risk of liver failure, for which interferons and antivirals are routinely prescribed. Currently available hepatitis B antivirals include lamivudine, adefovir, entecavir, and telbivudine. As part of routine treatment monitoring, drug resistance testing is increasingly used.

C'est le premier brevet accordé aux Etats-Unis couvrant une mutation critique générant une résistance à des médicaments contre le virus de l'hépatite B. Le brevet américain US 7,313,357 couvre un mutant de l’hépatite B avec la mutation « YMDD » et dès lors toute méthode utilisant cette mutation pour le dépistage de la résistance à des médicaments. Le dépistage de la résistance aux médicaments est désormais fortement recommandé pour tous les antiviraux actuellement disponibles contre l'hépatite B tels que la lamivudine, l'adefovir et l'entecavir. Ce nouveau brevet élargit le portefeuille de brevets d'Innogenetics dans le domaine de l’hépatite B pour une période d’au moins 10 ans.
