Innogenetics verleent GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals een licentie voor het gebruik van de HPV SPF10 genotyperingstechnologie in klinische studies voor HPV vaccins

Innogenetics kondigde vandaag aan dat het aan GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals (GSK) een beperkte wereldwijde niet-exclusieve licentie heeft verleend voor het gebruik van haar SPF10 technologie in klinische en epidemiologische human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinstudies. Innogenetics zal voor elke individuele test gebruikt tijdens de studies royalty’s ontvangen.

Baarmoederhalskanker wordt veroorzaakt door een hardnekkige infectie met HPV en is wereldwijd het tweede meest voorkomende type kanker bij vrouwen met ongeveer 500 000 nieuwe gevallen en 250 000 sterfgevallen per jaar als gevolg van deze aandoening. In Europa worden er jaarlijks ongeveer 50 000 nieuwe gevallen en 25 000 sterfgevallen door baarmoederhalskanker gerapporteerd. In de VS worden in 2008 meer dan 11 000 nieuwe gevallen en 3 800 sterfgevallen verwacht.

GSK heeft een licentie genomen op de SPF10 primer technologie van Innogenetics om haar huidige en toekomstige klinische en epidemiologische studies verder te zetten. Dit gebeurt in het licht van de verdere ontwikkeling van enkele van haar profylactische vaccins tegen HPV.

Christiaan De Wilde, CEO van Innogenetics becommentarieerde de overeenkomst: “De beslissing is genomen op basis van de uitstekende resultaten van de op SPF10-gebaseerde technologie van Innogenetics. Deze overeenkomst onderstreept de belangrijke waarde van onze intellectuele eigendom in het gebied van HPV. Daarenboven benadrukt dit het potentieel van onze huidige HPV genotyperingstechnologie ten dienste van de klinische laboratoria en farmaceutische bedrijven.”

Innogenetics heeft onlangs een CE-markering verkregen voor haar INNO-LiPA HPV Genotyping Extra* test. Dit product laat de genotypering toe van 28 verschillende HPV genotypes, waarvan 18 met hoog risico. Dit product is gebaseerd op het gebruik van de short PCR fragment (SPF) 10 primer set**, dat de detectie van meerdere HPV genotypes met hoge gevoeligheid en specificiteit toelaat.

Innogenetics grants GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals a license for use of HPV SPF10 genotyping technology in clinical studies on HPV vaccines

Innogenetics announced today that it has granted GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals (GSK) a worldwide non-exclusive restricted license to use its proprietary SPF10 technology in clinical and epidemiological human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine studies. Innogenetics will receive royalties for each individual test performed during the studies.

Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with HPV, and is the second most common cancer among women worldwide, with some 500,000 new cases and 250,000 deaths due to this disease each year. In Europe, there are approximately 50,000 new cases and 25,000 cervical cancer deaths reported annually, while in the US more than 11,000 new cases and 3,800 deaths are expected in 2008.

GSK has licensed Innogenetics’ SPF10 primer technology in order to continue its current and future clinical and epidemiological studies in the context of further development of some of their prophylactic vaccines directed against HPV.

Commenting on this agreement, Christiaan De Wilde, CEO of Innogenetics, explained: “The decision is based on the excellent performance of Innogenetics’ SPF10-based technology. In addition, Innogenetics recently obtained the CE-mark for its INNO-LiPA HPV Genotyping Extra* assay, a product allowing the genotyping of 28 different HPV genotypes, of which 18 are high-risk genotypes. This product is based on the use of the short PCR fragment (SPF)10 primer set**, which allows the detection of multiple HPV genotypes with high sensitivity and specificity.

Innogenetics a annoncé aujourd'hui avoir accordé à GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals (GSK) une licence mondiale non-exclusive restreinte pour l'utilisation de sa technologie SPF10 dans des études cliniques et épidémiologiques du vaccin du papillomavirus (HPV). Innogenetics recevra des redevances pour chaque essai individuel réalisé pendant les études.

Une infection persistante avec le HPV peut être à l’origine de cancer du col de l’utérus, actuellement le deuxième cancer le plus fréquent chez les femmes avec environ 500.000 nouveaux cas résultant en 250.000 décès chaque année dans le monde. Rien qu’en Europe, 50.000 nouveaux cas de cancer du col de l’utérus sont détectés chaque année résultant en 25.000 décès et aux Etats-Unis plus de 11.000 nouveaux cas et 3.800 décès sont anticipés pour l’année 2008.

GSK a pris une licence sur la technologie des sondes SPF10 d’Innogenetics en vue de continuer ses études cliniques et épidémiologiques actuelles et futures dans le contexte du développement de certains de ses vaccins prophylactiques contre le HPV.
